Don’t Waste Your Faith: The Seed That Can Change Everything (Pt 1) — Pastor Michael Todd
In the powerful kickoff to the Mustard series titled The Seed That Can Change Everything, Pastor Michael Todd calls believers to a bold reevaluation of their faith. He challenges us to recognize where we may be misapplying our mustard seed-sized faith—using it on matters where discipline, stewardship, and personal integrity would suffice. With passion and biblical depth, he unpacks five critical areas where we may be wasting our faith, and redirects us toward using it for what truly requires divine intervention.

Are You Misusing Your Mustard Seed?
Faith is God’s gift to us—not for convenience or comfort, but for calling and breakthrough. Pastor Mike emphasizes that many believers waste their faith on:
-
Poor Habits and Lack of Discipline
Many of us ask God to supernaturally fix what we’re unwilling to confront. Praying for deliverance from laziness or procrastination, when what we truly need is a disciplined routine, cheapens the purpose of faith. -
Budget and Financial Management
Instead of using faith to cover financial recklessness, Pastor Mike urges believers to apply wisdom and stewardship. A well-managed budget can resolve what prayer alone cannot if we lack responsibility. -
Integrity Issues
Faith cannot be a substitute for integrity. God honors obedience. Using faith to cover for dishonesty, secret sin, or broken commitments is not faith—it’s denial. -
Unspoken Expectations and Poor Communication
Relationships suffer when we spiritualize what needs honest conversation. Pastor Mike points out that many pray for relational healing when the issue is lack of clarity or communication. -
Self-Inflicted Situations
We often ask God to bail us out of problems we created through our own decisions. Faith is not a magic eraser for poor choices. Instead, it should empower obedience and wiser paths forward.
The Real Purpose of Faith
Faith is meant to partner with our obedience to fulfill God’s vision for our lives. Referencing Hebrews 11:1 ("Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen") and Hebrews 11:6 ("Without faith it is impossible to please God"), Pastor Mike reminds us that faith should lead us into the unknown with boldness—not be used to escape personal accountability.
He also connects Ephesians 2:8-9 to reinforce that faith is a gift, not a fallback plan for laziness or chaos. Real faith—mustard seed faith—should confront apathy, challenge mediocrity, and transform atmospheres. As he put it, “Faith attacks apathy. Faith agitates average. Faith shifts atmospheres.”
A Call to Audacious, Aligned Faith
This sermon isn’t a rebuke—it’s a realignment. Pastor Todd calls us to stop playing small and start trusting big. The seed of faith inside us is not meant for small fixes but for kingdom shifts. When we align our faith with obedience and integrity, we unlock God’s best for our lives.
Faith should lead us to action. It’s time to reserve our faith for the impossible, the God-sized dreams that require divine direction. Don’t waste your faith trying to solve problems you’ve been empowered to manage. Use it to step into your bold future.
